York Case Study
In November 2023, I-Clean was approached by a doctor’s surgery and chemist based in Tockwith, York. We quoted for the cleaning of the external roof, which was to be accessed with a truck mounted platform. It was decided that a low pressure steam and detergent scrub would be perfect for this property and work was carried out in the same week.
Project Preparation
Whilst assessing the commercial property to understand which services were required, the I-Clean team noted that they would be working on private land, therefore, traffic management was not required. However, we ensured that exclusion zones would be erected around the working area and that pedestrian management would be in place. This would be used to ensure safe access and egress for patients using the doctor’s surgery and chemist.
How Did The York Commercial Roof Clean Take Place?
When work began for this client, two I-Clean operatives were sent to the site and began at 8am. A trailer mounted pressure washer was used to remove debris and moss from the roof, without causing damage to the tiles. After using soft wash techniques, the team then applied a sodium hypochlorite/greenwash mix to kill the spores and prevent regrowth for up to five years.
Our operatives accessed the area with a truck mounted access platform, which allowed them to access the whole of the roof from the basket. This avoided the use of dangerous methods, such as using ladders to reach the needed height or needing the team to illegally walk on the roof without the correct safety measures. On each of the two days required to finish this project, our operatives worked until 5pm and completed the job as soon as possible.
Results Of The Project
When it comes to end results, the before and after photos of this project speak for themselves. All of the moss and algae present was removed from the roof, leaving it in a better condition than when our team arrived on site and restoring it to its original condition. The roof will remain in this condition for up to five years, because our techniques killed the moss and algae at the root.
This clean also provided clear visuals for our roofing team, who were able to provide the client with recommended repairs to ensure longevity from their current roofing structure.
